Vegan Option Canada (VOC) is a nationwide grassroots political activism organization that aims to ensure vegan options are available in a variety of areas, particularly vegan food options. Its founding principles are horizontality, decentralization of power, and a pragmatic approach based on the values of compassion and non-violence.

Take Action to Prevent Future Crises

Most pandemics are caused by germs that jump from animals to humans.

The main causes of zoonotic infections are wet markets, factory farms and human encroachment on animal habitat.

The covid 19 pandemic could have been prevented.  For decades, scientists have warned of zoonotic infections, and nothing was done.

Animal agriculture is a major cause of the climate crisis.

VOC is not forcing anyone to become vegan against their will. Based on a compassionate approach to reducing suffering, we call on the government, in accordance with section 2A of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, to allow individuals to choose food that aligns with their conscience. Everyone should have the right to eat in accordance with their deep values and identity or creed. Let’s expand healthy food options rather than restrict them! Read more…

New Canadian Food Guide

Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, whole grains and protein foods. Choose plant-based protein foods more often.

Eating plant-based foods regularly can mean eating more fibre and less saturated fat. This can have a positive effect on health, including a lowered risk of:

  • cancer
  • heart disease
  • type 2 diabetes

Choose plant-based protein foods more often

Beans, lentils and other legumes are inexpensive protein foods. Use them in your meals several times a week.

Why?

The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms states, in section 2A, that every Canadian citizen is entitled to freedom of conscience and religion. Therefore, the choice of vegan food cannot be ignored, since it is clearly a matter of conscience. As a result, no one today should be forced to consume meat, milk, cheese, or eggs if these foods are inconsistent with their deep ethical, social, and environmental values. Read More…

Testimonials

James Aspey

It’s a basic principle of ethics not to cause unnecessary suffering to others. When people choose not to eat animal products, this is often based on strong ethical convictions. The government should not oblige people to eat animal products when they eat at government-run institutions. Providing a vegan option to everyone is also a practical means of promoting a more compassionate society.
